Why taster?

A taster apprenticeship offers the opportunity to explore a profession on site. Taster apprenticeships usually last one to five days and offer sufficient time to familiarise yourself with the various areas of a profession and get to know the team.

  • Check whether your skills, preferences and ideas match the content of the apprenticeship.
  • Take a look behind the scenes of a store, office, restaurant or workshop.
  • Chat with the learners on site - they were once in your position too and are happy to share their experiences.

How does it work?

First think about which professional field you would like to try out. You can easily find the right apprenticeship with our Talent Matcher.

Before the taster
Your interest in our taster apprenticeships shows that you are thorough and like to prepare yourself well. Here are a few steps to help you get in the right mood for your taster apprenticeship:
  • Find out more about the company and the industry.
  • Clarify what you should wear and take with you.
  • Think about questions you can ask during the taster session.
  • Think about what you want to tell the team about yourself.
  • Complete the preparatory assignment if the company has given you one.
  • These tips will make you well equipped to gain valuable insights and make a lasting impression!
During the taster session
To get the most out of your taster experience, we have five valuable tips for you:
  • Plan enough time for your journey so that you are on time and make a good first impression.
  • Watch carefully and ask if something is not clear to you - this is how you learn the most.
  • Show initiative and lend a hand when the opportunity arises.
  • Ask lots of questions to get to know the work, the company and the team better.
  • Be open: we want to know more about you! Tell us about yourself and your interests.
After the taster
Can you imagine doing an apprenticeship at a Migros Group company? If you can answer this question with a clear 'yes' after your taster apprenticeship, tell the person responsible directly. And also of course if it isn't the right fit.
At the end of the taster programme, it is important to enquire about the next steps.

What if the job isn't right for you after all? Don't give up! Apply for another taster programme in a different company or industry. Remember: the Migros Group trains apprentices in over 55 different professions.

Tips for parents

  • It's nice if your child calls the company themselves to enquire about a taster placement. Encourage your child to show initiative.
  • Encourage your child to take an interest in many different apprenticeship professions. This helps them to better recognise their interests and abilities.
  • Find out about the profession together with your child. This can be done through discussions, internet research or attending information events. The more knowledge that's been gathered, the more the young person will benefit from the taster programme.
  • Support your child in this process, but don't take over. Your child should learn to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their future.
